Samuel Toward (b. 1999) is a Tkaronto/Toronto-based photographer and artist originally from St. Catharines, Ontario. Toward received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography Studies and is completing his Master of Fine Arts in Documentary Media at Toronto Metropolitan University. Primarily operating in analogue mediums, his work looks to documentary photography as a means of introspectively exploring the human condition and the urban environment. Through documenting interventions of urbanization, he explores how the spaces we occupy are constructed and how they alter us physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

In 2020, Toward was awarded Toronto Metropolitan University Libraries First Edition Photobook Book Award for his work The Death of an Industry, The Death of a Generation, where it is now held in their Special Collections. In 2024, Toward was awarded the IMC Student Gallery Production Award – in memory of George Fleischmann for the exhibition of his work Where The River Runs, on view at The Image Centre from September 11 - October 19, 2024.
